Very Beautiful & Easy Sleeves Design
Sleeves are the easiest way to elevate a basic pattern without complex pattern drafting. My current favorite easy-yet-stunning design is the Lantern Sleeve.
Cutting & Stitching is simpler than it looks:
Cut: Cut your sleeve as a straight, wide rectangle. The width determines the volume. For a moderate lantern, cut it 1.5 times the width of your armhole.
Stitch: Sew the underarm seam. Then, run two parallel rows of gathering stitches: one about 3 inches from the cuff and another 2 inches above that.
Create the Shape: Pull the gathering threads to cinch the fabric, creating the distinctive “lantern” shape. Secure the gathers.
Attach a Cuff: Stitch a narrow cuff to the bottom opening, and voilà! You have a gorgeous, on-trend sleeve that requires zero complicated slashing or spreading of a pattern.
