High Neck Collar Design: Cutting & Stitching
A high neck collar screams sophistication and structure. While it looks intricate, it’s surprisingly achievable. The absolute key is precision in cutting.

Cutting: Draft a band that is exactly the length of your neckline circumference and twice the desired height plus seam allowance. For example, for a 2-inch high collar, cut a band 4.5 inches wide. The grainline is crucial here—cut it on the straight grain for stability.

Stitching: Fold the band in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch the short ends. Turn it right side out to form a loop. Now, carefully pin the raw edges of the band to the right side of the kurta’s neckline, matching the center backs and shoulders. Stitch, press the seam allowance up, and understitch to keep the collar standing proud.

In my experience, using a slightly stiff interfacing on the inner layer makes all the difference for a crisp, professional finish.
