How to make easy and latest tessels for fancy and silk sarees
Nothing elevates a saree pallu or keychain like a luxurious, handmade tassel. The store-bought ones are fine, but when you make your own, you can perfectly match any color or add personal flair.
Here’s my foolproof method:
Gather: Embroidery floss or silk yarn (for a super fancy look!), a piece of cardboard, sharp scissors, and a crochet hook or needle.
Determine the Size: The width of your cardboard will be the length of your tassel. For a saree, I usually use a 4-5 inch piece.
Wrap the Yarn: Hold the end of your yarn at the top of the cardboard. Now, wrap the yarn around and around the cardboard. The number of wraps determines the tassel’s fullness—50-60 times is a good start.
Tie the Top: Carefully slide a separate 8-inch piece of yarn under all the wraps at the top of the cardboard. Tie it in a very tight, double knot.
Cut the Bottom: Slide your scissors between the cardboard and the yarn loops and carefully cut through all the strands at the bottom.
Shape & Trim: Take another piece of yarn and wrap it tightly around the entire bundle, about an inch down from the top knot. Tie it securely and hide the ends inside the tassel. Give your tassel a neat trim at the bottom.
To attach it to a saree pallu: Use the two long tails from the top knot to securely stitch it onto the corner of your saree. For a modern twist, mix metallic threads with matte ones for incredible depth and shine.
