Jumukkas design tutorial for saree and kurti
Jumakkas, also known as fabric balls or pom-poms, are a fantastic way to add a playful, textural element to your outfits. I love using them because they’re so versatile and easy to make! They look especially charming on the pallu of a saree or the hem of a kurti, adding a boho-chic touch that’s perfect for summer.
How to Make & Attach Them:
Create the Ball: The easiest method is to wrap yarn around your fingers dozens of times. Carefully slide the bundle off and tie a separate piece of yarn tightly around the middle. Snip the loops and fluff it into a ball shape. For a saree, use finer thread; for a kurti, chunkier yarn makes a statement.
Attach with Flair: Don’t just sew it on flat! Sew a cluster of 3-5 jumakkas together, then attach the cluster to your garment. This creates a more dynamic, 3D effect. On a saree pallu, space a few clusters along the edge. On a kurti, they look adorable at the end of a tie-string or at the corner of the slit.
It’s a simple detail that makes your handmade outfit look professionally designed.
