Wind Chime Out of Plastic Bottle – Best Out of Waste
This is one of my favorite projects to do with kids! We made a colorful one for our porch, and the soft, muted clinking of the plastic is so much gentler than metal. It’s a brilliant way to add visual interest and sound to your garden.

You’ll need: A plastic bottle, acrylic paints, string, scissors, and a few beads.

Let’s create some music:

Create the Chimes: Cut the bottom off your plastic bottle. Then, from the middle cylindrical section, cut 5-7 vertical strips of equal width. These will be your chimes.

Paint & Decorate: Paint each chime in vibrant, contrasting colors. Let them dry completely.

Assemble: Punch a hole in the top of each chime. Cut strings to different lengths and tie one to each chime. Thread a few beads onto each string below the chime; these will act as clappers.

Hang It Up: Tie the other ends of the strings to the plastic bottle’s cap (or a stick) at varying heights. Hang your new wind chime in a breezy spot!

It’s a cheerful, sustainable craft that proves beauty can come from the most unexpected places.
