Why buy a designer sari when you can become the designer? Creating your own allows you to control the color, texture, and embellishment, resulting in a garment that’s perfectly you.
Your At-Studio Guide:
The simplest way to start is by painting or block printing.
Choose Your Canvas: A plain, light-colored cotton, silk, or chiffon sari is your best bet.
Plan Your Design: Sketch your idea first! A repeating pattern along the border or a scattered motif across the body works beautifully. Kalamkari-inspired motifs or modern abstract shapes are very on-trend.
Execute: Use fabric paints or inks and either hand-paint your design or use a hand-carved block to stamp it on. Remember to place cardboard inside the layers of fabric to prevent bleed-through.
Set the Design: Once the paint is completely dry, heat-set it with an iron according to the paint instructions to make it permanent.
You’ve just created a wearable piece of art that no one else in the world has.
