Creative & Latest Neck Design: Cutting & Stitching
The neckline is the focal point of any top, and this season, it’s all about architectural details and unexpected cut-outs. Move beyond the basic round and V-necks! In my experience, a unique neckline can elevate the simplest outfit instantly.
What’s trending right now?
The Asymmetric Halter: One shoulder extends into a high neck, while the other is bare. It’s dramatic, flattering, and easier to stitch than it looks. You just need to draft a sharp diagonal line from the shoulder seam to the opposite waist.
The Structured Stand-Collar: Think less shirt-collar, more origami. We’re seeing high, geometric collars that stand away from the neck, often with sharp angles or curved cut-outs. Use interfacing to give the fabric the necessary body.
The Peek-a-Boo Keyhole: A simple round neck with a small, geometric keyhole opening at the center, fastened with a button or a tie. It’s a subtle way to add a touch of allure.
The key to nailing these designs is precise pattern drafting. Always make a mock-up with cheap muslin first to perfect the fit and structure before cutting into your good fabric!
