Mirror work (shisha) isn’t just for Boho-chic lehengas anymore! It’s making a massive comeback on blouses, adding incredible texture and light-catching detail. I recently designed a blouse with small, circular mirrors scattered like polka dots, and the way it caught the light was just magical.

The effect changes completely based on the mirror’s shape, size, and arrangement:

Shape: It’s not just about circles! Look for:

Tiny Round Mirrors: For a subtle, all-over sparkle.

Geometric Shapes: Triangles, hexagons, and squares for a more modern, structured pattern.

Pearl-Encased Mirrors: Where the mirror is surrounded by pearls for a luxurious feel.

Pattern: How they’re placed is key.

All-Over Scatter: A random, festive look.

Geometric Patterns: Mirrors placed to form specific shapes or lines.

Embroidered Motifs: Mirrors are stitched into the center of floral or peacock embroidery, a classic technique from regions like Kutch and Rajasthan.

Border Detail: Mirrors used only along the neckline, sleeves, or back border for a hint of sparkle.

Pro Tip: The size of the mirror matters. Larger mirrors make a bigger statement but can be less comfortable. Smaller mirrors offer more flexibility in design and are easier to wear.
