Wicker baskets can be expensive. Why not make your own custom-sized ones from a material you probably already have? My favorite material for this is rope—it’s sturdy, weather-resistant, and gives a lovely, nautical feel.
The Coiled Rope Basket:
Start Coiling: Get a thick cotton or jute rope and a hot glue gun. Start coiling the rope tightly, using dabs of hot glue between the coils to hold the shape.
Build the Sides: As your base grows, start stacking the coils on top of each other to build the sides of the basket.
Finish: When you reach your desired height, cut the rope and glue the end securely to the inside of the basket.
For outdoor use, use a polypropylene rope as it won’t be damaged by moisture. You can make these baskets any size, perfect for storing toiletries, pool toys, or gardening tools.
