How to Design Saree Edging with Beaded Tassels
Adding a beaded tassel edge (or pallu) is a fantastic way to personalize a plain saree. According to a recent Vogue India feature, handmade elements like this are a major trend for 2024, moving towards unique, artisanal pieces.
A Simple Method:
Plan Your Design: Lay your saree flat. Decide where you want the tassels—along the entire pallu edge, or just as corner accents?
Create Tassels: You can buy pre-made beaded tassels or make your own by stringing beads onto embroidery thread, bundling them, and securing the top.
Attach Securely: Using a needle and strong, matching thread, carefully hand-stitch the top of each tassel to the border of the saree. Space them evenly. I recommend doubling your thread for extra security; the last thing you want is beads scattering!
The movement and sound of the beads add a whole new sensory dimension to the drape. It’s pure magic.
Fine embroidery is a piece of art and takes a long time to get crafted to perfection. Tiny yet powerful patterns etched on beautifully colored soft mul cotton sarees have so much to speak about one’s personality and mood. The artistically done patchwork details give this six-yard wonder a contemporary edge. The beauty of this saree lies in its attempt to promote the sustainable creation of handcrafted products. The bright and bold patchwork details have been crafted out of unused fabric swatches at our artisan locations. You wouldn’t be able to take your eyes off of these exquisite pieces of artwork!
