How to Make a Candle Holder from a Plastic Bottle
Upcycling plastic bottles into home decor is my absolute favorite way to be creative and eco-friendly. I made a set of these for my patio table last summer, and guests are always shocked when I tell them they’re made from old soda bottles! It’s a simple project with a huge visual payoff.

You’ll need: A clean plastic bottle, scissors, craft paint or spray paint, a tea light candle (battery-operated is safest!).

Let’s get crafting:

Cut the Base: Using sharp scissors, carefully cut off the bottom third of the plastic bottle. This concave piece is your future candle holder. Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper or by carefully melting them with a lighter (adults only for this step!).

Create a Design: This is where you get creative! Use the scissors to cut geometric shapes (triangles, slits) or a delicate scalloped pattern around the sides. Recent trend: Use a hot glue gun to draw an intricate mandala pattern on the surface. Once the glue dries, it creates a beautiful raised resist.

Paint & Finish: Paint your holder inside and out. Metallic spray paints (gold, rose gold) look incredibly chic and hide the plastic texture perfectly. Let it dry completely.

Pop in a candle, and watch the light dance through the cut-out patterns. It’s a stunning, sustainable accent piece.
