How to Make a Lampshade from a Plastic Bottle
Upcycling is my passion, and turning a plastic bottle into a chic lampshade is one of my most satisfying projects. It’s a fantastic way to reduce plastic waste and create custom lighting. I made a cluster of these for my patio, and they cast the most beautiful patterns!

You’ll need: A large plastic bottle (2L soda bottle is perfect), scissors, an X-Acto knife, string lights (fairy lights), and markers or paint (optional).

Let’s get crafting:

Prepare the Bottle: Thoroughly wash the bottle and remove the label. Use scissors to carefully cut off the bottom third of the bottle. Adult supervision is recommended for this step.

Design Your Shade: This is where you get creative! Use the X-Acto knife to carefully cut out shapes—like stars, geometric patterns, or simple slits—all over the surface of the bottle. The light will shine through these holes.

Assemble: Place your string lights inside the bottle. Poke a small hole in the bottle’s cap, feed the wire through it, and screw the cap back on to secure the lights in place. If you want color, paint the outside of the bottle with glass paint or color it with permanent markers for a stained-glass effect.

Switch it on and enjoy your eco-friendly, one-of-a-kind lamp!

Making DIY Best out of waste crafts is always a fun activity. It gives a joy of recreating something innovative from the waste material. Especially when we recycle the plastic waste, it gives the immense satisfaction of helping the environment in some shape of form.
