How to Make a Pompom Door Mat / Rug (DIY Tutorial)
If you love texture and cozy crafts, this is the project for you! I made a vibrant pompom mat for my bedroom, and it’s like walking on a cloud. It’s surprisingly hardwearing and adds a fantastic pop of color and fun.

You’ll need: A non-slip mesh rug canvas (or a piece of sturdy netting), a TON of yarn in your chosen colors, and scissors.

The Simple Process:

Make a Million Pompoms: Well, not a million, but a lot! Use a pompom maker or the classic cardboard ring method to create dozens of fluffy pompoms. Vary the sizes and colors for a more dynamic look.

Attach to the Canvas: This is the meditative part. Thread each pompom onto a large-eye needle or a piece of yarn and tie it securely onto the mesh canvas. Use a double knot! Place them close together so the canvas is completely hidden.

Flip and Fluff: Once the entire canvas is covered, flip it over. The knots will be on the bottom, and the top will be a lush field of soft pompoms.

For a door mat, use rougher, acrylic yarn as it’s more durable and weather-resistant. It’s a wonderfully satisfying project to do while watching TV.
