How to Make a Door Hanging from a Newspaper Tube
I love a good upcycle, and turning old newspapers into rustic-chic home decor is one of my favorites! I made a gorgeous, boho-style mandala wall hanging for my entryway using this method, and guests are always shocked when I tell them it’s made from yesterday’s news. It’s surprisingly sturdy and adds wonderful texture to any room.

You’ll need: Newspapers, white glue, a skewer or knitting needle, scissors, and acrylic paint (optional).

Let’s get rolling:

Make Your “Yarn”: Lay a sheet of newspaper flat. Place a skewer on one corner at a 45-degree angle and start rolling it up tightly, adding a dab of glue at the end to seal it. You’ll now have a long, sturdy paper stick. Make dozens of these!

Shape Your Design: This is where the fun begins. You can coil these tubes into circles to create a sunburst mandala, or weave them into a simple geometric pattern. Use glue to secure the tubes where they meet.

Secure & Finish: Once your design is complete and the glue is dry, you can leave it natural for a neutral, rustic look or paint it. Dry-brushing with white or metallic paint looks incredible, as it highlights the woven texture. Finally, attach a loop of string or ribbon to the back for hanging.

It’s a meditative, eco-friendly project that results in a truly unique piece of art.

A door hanger (also spelled door hanging or door-hanger) is a plastic or cardboard sign, generally rectangular in shape, cut to hang from the handle or knob of a door. They are sometimes used to distribute print advertising to residences.
