How to make block printed designer kurti

Block printing is an ancient art, but it feels incredibly fresh and modern on a kurti. The best part? You can create a one-of-a-kind, artisan-quality garment at home. I block-printed a simple linen kurti with a geometric pattern, and it’s now my most-complimented piece.

Let’s Get Printing:

Source Your Tools: You can buy beautiful hand-carved wooden blocks online or from craft stores. You’ll also need fabric-specific block printing ink.

Prep the Fabric: Wash and iron your plain, light-colored kurti to remove any sizing. Lay it perfectly flat on a hard surface. Place cardboard inside the kurti to prevent ink from bleeding through.

Print the Pattern: Pour ink onto a plate and lightly coat your block. Press it firmly and evenly onto the fabric. Lift straight up. Repeat to create your desired pattern! Use masking tape to mark a straight line as a guide.

Set the Ink: Once the design is dry, heat-set it by ironing the printed area on the reverse side (follow your ink’s instructions). This makes the design permanent and washable.

You’ve just created a wearable piece of art that’s uniquely yours.
