How to Make a Flower Vase with a Plastic Jar
Don’t toss that plastic jar! In under 30 minutes, you can upcycle it into a chic, modern vase. I’ve made a dozen of these for my balcony, and they’re a perfect, rain-proof solution for outdoor flowers.

You’ll need: A clean plastic jar (mayonnaise, pickles, etc.), jute rope or thick yarn, a hot glue gun, and scissors.

The simple process:

Start at the Bottom: Put a generous dot of hot glue on the bottom of the jar and quickly press the end of your jute rope into it. Let it cool completely—this secures your starting point.

Coil Upwards: Add a thin line of glue around the jar, just above your starting point. Press the rope firmly into the glue, coiling it neatly. Repeat this process, glueing and coiling, until you cover the entire jar.

Finish Strong: When you reach the top, cut the rope and secure the end with a final dab of glue. For a rustic touch, you can even add a loop of rope as a handle!

Pro Tip: For a pop of color, paint the jar with acrylic paint before you add the jute. A navy blue or terracotta base peeking through the coils looks incredibly stylish.
