How to Make a Hand-Painted Designer Kurti
Why wear a mass-produced print when you can wear original art? Hand-painting is my go-to for creating one-of-a-kind statement pieces. You don’t need to be Picasso; simple, elegant motifs work best.

My Simple Process:

Fabric Choice: Start with a pre-washed, natural fiber kurti in a light color—cotton, linen, or silk are perfect as they absorb fabric paints well.

The Design: Sketch your design lightly with a water-soluble pencil. Florals, abstract shapes, or delicate vines along the hem and neckline are always stunning. Place a cardboard inside the kurti to prevent bleed-through.

Paint & Set: Use fabric markers or acrylic paints mixed with a textile medium. This medium is crucial—it makes the paint flexible and washable. Fill in your design, let it dry for 24 hours, and then heat-set it with an iron (place a cloth over the design) to lock the colors in forever.

It’s a relaxing, creative process that results in a garment nobody else in the world has.
