Kalamkari is a type of cotton cloth printed by hand. In this video, I have demonstrated making of Jhumka using Kalamkari cloth.
Kalamkari art, with its intricate mythological scenes and natural motifs, is stunning on jewelry. Creating Kalamkari jhumkas lets you wear this ancient art form. I made a pair featuring tiny peacocks, and the folk-art effect was beautiful.
Create Your Wearable Art:
The Base: Start with plain, light-colored metal disc jhumka bases.
The Artwork: This is the trick! Instead of painting freehand, use Kalamkari-style rubber stamps and fabric ink pads. Lightly stamp your chosen design (a peacock, flower, or paisley) onto the disc.
Seal It: Once the ink is completely dry, carefully seal the design with a clear, non-yellowing varnish to protect it.
Assemble: Attain the stamped disc to the jhumka hook and add a bead or tassel to the bottom if you like.
It’s a much easier way to capture the detailed beauty of Kalamkari without being a master artist.

Happy Crafting!!
