Pani work designer neckline for kurti. Be it for office wear, casual outings or college dress code, kurti’s have become an integral part of every Indian woman’s life. The dazzling colors and the ease with which they can be worn over jeans, leggings and palazzos have made them a hot favorite.

Pani work (or aari work) is a gorgeous form of chain stitch embroidery that creates a rich, textured effect. Using it to outline a neckline instantly gives a kurti a luxurious, designer feel. It’s one of my favorite techniques for making a simple garment look expensive.

How to Get the Look:

Outline the Shape: Using a water-soluble pen, draw your design directly onto the neckline fabric. Simple scrolling vines, paisleys, or geometric patterns work beautifully.

The Stitch: Thread a crewel or chenille needle with your chosen thread. The pani/aari stitch is essentially a tambour or chain stitch, where you create a looped line. It’s easier to learn than it looks with a little practice!

Add Embellishment: For extra sparkle, you can couch down a thin metallic cord or add sequins (sitara) within the design as you stitch.

This traditional technique creates a stunning, raised outline that frames the face beautifully.

Just like any other product in the market, people’s tastes vary with kurti’s too. Whichever be the choice, the kurtis neck designs significantly impacts the look of the outfit.
