How to make vase from newspaper tube
This is my favorite sustainable craft. It’s surprisingly strong and a great way to upcycle old newspapers and magazines!
Step 1: Make the Tubes
Roll a sheet of newspaper diagonally around a skinny knitting needle or skewer. Use a dab of white glue to secure the end. You’ll need 30-50 tubes to start.
Step 2: Create the Base
Flatten about 15 tubes. Weave them together in a tight mat (over-under, like a basket) to form a circular or square base. Glue the ends down.
Step 3: Build the Sides
Place your base on a pot or jar for support. Start weaving your vertical tubes around the base, bending them upward. Use your long, rolled tubes to weave horizontally around and around the vertical ones, building the height.
Step 4: Finish and Seal
Once you’ve reached your desired height, tuck the ends inward and glue. Finally, seal the entire vase with 2-3 coats of white glue (PVA) mixed with a little water. This makes it rigid and ready for a coat of paint or varnish! It’s completely waterproof for faux flowers.
As you know, we can use newspaper tube to create useful household items like baskets. When your free time you also can try to weave a basket from news papers it will be very interesting.
Recently I weaved a flower vase from paper tube. Here are the steps how I did it.
