Beautiful & Trending Palazzo Bottom Designs: Cutting & Stitching
Okay, let’s get practical! How do you actually achieve these looks? It’s easier than you think.

For an Asymmetric or High-Low Hem:

Cutting: This is the key step. After sewing the inner and outer leg seams, put the pants on. Have a friend mark your desired front and back lengths with pins. For a high-low, the front is typically ankle-length, and the back can be anywhere from mid-calf to floor-length. Connect these marks with a smooth, curved line using tailor’s chalk before cutting.

Stitching: Finish the raw edge with a serger or zig-zag stitch. Then, create a narrow double fold (about ¼ inch each) and stitch it down. Pro Tip: Use a blind hem stitch by hand for an invisible finish on the right side, especially on bulky fabrics.

For a Wide-Band Cuff:

Cutting: First, decide how wide you want your cuff. Then, subtract that measurement from your pant’s total length and cut the legs to that new length. For example, for a 36″ long pant with a 3″ cuff, cut the leg to 33″.

Stitching: Cut two strips of fabric for the cuff bands. They should be (2 x desired cuff width + 1 inch for seam allowance) by the circumference of your pant bottom. Fold the band in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and press. Then, simply sandwich the raw edge of the pant leg inside the band and stitch it all together. Easy!
