DIY Flower Vase Of Recycled Plastic Spoons
This is one of my most popular upcycling projects—it looks like expensive ceramic from a distance but costs almost nothing! I made a set of these for my patio table, and they’ve held up perfectly through sun and rain.
You’ll need: A plastic bottle (the vase base), many plastic spoons, a hot glue gun, and acrylic paint.
Let’s build a blossom:
Prepare the “Petals”: Use scissors to snip off the handles of all your plastic spoons. You’ll be left with just the rounded scoop parts.
Create the Base: Take your plastic bottle and cut it to your desired vase height.
Glue in Layers: Start at the bottom of the bottle. Glue the first row of spoon “petals” around the base, with the rounded sides facing out. Overlap each row onto the one below, working your way up to the top. This creates a beautiful, overlapping scale or flower petal effect.
Paint & Seal: Paint your entire vase with acrylic paint. Metallic gold or white looks incredibly chic. For outdoor use, seal it with a clear spray varnish.
You’ll be amazed at how such a common waste item can be transformed into a beautiful, textural piece of art.
