How to Make a Unique Newspaper Wall Hanging Vase
Tired of boring vases? Let’s turn yesterday’s news into a stunning, sculptural wall vase for dried flowers or lightweight faux blooms. I made one for my balcony wall, and it’s such a conversation starter! This project is all about texture and organic shapes.
You’ll need: Newspapers, white glue (PVA), a balloon, paint, and a brush.
Let’s get building:
Shape the Base: Blow up a balloon to your desired size. This will be the mold for your vase. Tear newspaper into strips.
The Papier-Mâché Process: Mix glue with a little water. Dip each strip, remove the excess, and layer them onto the bottom half of the balloon, creating a bowl shape. Aim for 3-4 layers for strength. Let it dry completely overnight.
The Reveal: Pop the balloon! You now have a sturdy paper bowl. To turn it into a wall vase, carefully use scissors to flatten the back side so it hangs flush against the wall.
Finish with Flair: Now, get creative! Paint it a solid matte color (terracotta or sage green are gorgeous). For texture, glue on rolled newspaper sticks or paper quilled shapes before painting. Pro Tip: Seal the inside with mod podge to make it water-resistant for dried grasses.
This is a zero-waste project that adds a major artistic statement to any room.
