Why should earrings have all the fun? Embroidering a jhumka design directly onto your kurta is a stunning way to add a touch of personalized glamour. I did this on the cuff of a plain black kurta, and it looked like expensive designer detailing.
How to Embroider a Beaded Jhumka:
Sketch the Shape: Lightly draw a simple teardrop or circular jhumka shape on your kurta where you want it—the cuff, neckline, or shoulder are perfect spots.
Outline with Beads: Use a backstitch with your thread to string and secure a line of beads along your drawn outline.
Fill it In: Inside the outline, fill the space with a mix of seed beads in complementary colors. You can create patterns or simply fill it randomly for a sparkly effect.
Add a “Dangle”: From the bottom point of the jhumka, stitch a short string of beads hanging down to mimic the classic jhumka pendant.
It’s a simple way to make a mass-produced kurta feel uniquely yours.
