Latest Designer Sleeves Design for Kurtis (Tutorial)
Sleeves are the new focal point of kurti design! The latest trend is all about Exaggerated Volume and Architectural Shapes. My current favorite, which is easier to sew than it looks, is the Leg-of-Mutton sleeve.
Here’s a simplified tutorial:
The Cut: The secret is in the sleeve pattern. You need to add a lot of extra volume at the top (the shoulder cap) that tapers dramatically down to a tight cuff at the wrist.
Hack: Take a basic sleeve pattern. Slash it from the wrist to the top and spread the pieces apart at the top only, creating a giant, puffed shape at the shoulder. This is your new pattern.
The Gathering: The top of the sleeve cap will be much wider than the armhole. You’ll need to sew two rows of basting stitches along the cap and gently gather it until it fits the armhole opening. This creates the signature puff.
The Taper: The bottom of the sleeve should be cut to fit a narrow band or cuff, creating the beautiful contrast between the voluminous top and the fitted wrist.
This sleeve adds a dramatic, romantic, and high-fashion touch to an otherwise simple kurti, making it perfect for parties and celebrations.
