How to make aquarium with goldfish

While we can’t craft a real living ecosystem, we can create a stunning, ethical faux aquarium that never needs cleaning! This is a fantastic project for kids’ rooms or as a calming decor piece. I made a desktop version with my niece, and she loves “feeding” the plastic fish.

Create Your No-Maintenance Underwater World:

Find a Container: A large, clear glass jar, vase, or even an old fish tank works perfectly.

The Base Layer: Add a layer of clean sand or small, smooth pebbles to the bottom.

Add “Water” & Decor: Fill the container about halfway with clear hair gel or glycerin. This gives a watery, shimmering effect. Gently press in plastic aquatic plants, seashells, and shiny plastic gemstones.

The Fish: Add your plastic goldfish and other sea creatures, suspending them in the gel.

Seal & Enjoy: Secure the lid (hot glue it for a permanent seal) and turn on a small, battery-operated LED light behind it for a magical glow.

It’s a beautiful, humane alternative that captures the beauty of an aquarium without the responsibility.
