How to Make a Woolen Garland
This is my favorite winter craft! A woolen garland is the coziest, easiest way to add a pop of color and texture to your home. I made a bunch for my fireplace mantle, and it instantly made the room feel warmer and more inviting.
It’s simpler than you think. You’ll need: Wool roving or yarn scraps in various colors, a bowl of warm soapy water (yes, really!), and your hands.
The Felting Fun (Wet Felting Method):
Shape Your Wool: Take a small piece of wool roving and gently roll it into a loose ball. You can make different sizes for variety.
The Magic Act: Dip the ball into the warm, soapy water. Now, very gently, roll it between your palms. The friction and soap will cause the wool fibers to start matting together and felting into a solid, firm ball.
Rinse & Dry: Once it’s firm to your liking, rinse the soap out in cool water and let your colorful wool balls dry completely.
Finally, simply thread a needle with sturdy string and string your felted balls together, alternating colors and sizes. Tie it off, and you’ve got a beautiful, handmade garland that’s 100% unique
