Saree Tassels with Beads Using Silk Thread
Nothing finishes a beautiful saree pallu like a handmade, silk thread tassel. The store-bought ones are fine, but a custom tassel in a perfectly matching color with your own beadwork? That’s next-level elegance. I love making these for my silk sarees; it feels like adding a signature jewel.
Crafting Your Tassel:
The Core: Cut a piece of cardboard to your desired tassel length. Wind your silk thread around it dozens of times—the more you wind, the fuller your tassel will be.
Secure the Top: Carefully slide a separate piece of thread under the top loops and tie it extremely tightly. This will be the part that attaches to your saree.
Beading the Neck: Before you cut the bottom loops, add your beads. Take a strong needle and thread it with a matching thread. Wrap it tightly around the tassel a few inches down from the top to create the “neck,” and then meticulously thread your beads onto this securing thread, sewing them in place as you go.
Finish: Slip the wound threads off the cardboard and cut the bottom loops. Trim the ends even, and your luxurious, bespoke tassel is ready to be attached to your saree’s pallu!
