DIY Beautiful Table Mat / Floor Mat Flower shaped mat from old clothes – Step By Step Video Tutorial

Got a pile of old t-shirts and jeans that you just can’t part with? Don’t donate them—transform them into a gorgeous, squishy, and completely unique flower-shaped rug! I made one for my bathroom from a stack of my kids’ outgrown clothes, and it’s not only a cherished memory mat but also the comfiest thing to stand on after a shower. It’s a fantastic way to upcycle fabric scraps and add a bohemian touch to any room.

Here’s how to create your own cozy masterpiece:

Prepare Your “Yarn”: The easiest method is the t-shirt yarn technique. Lay an old cotton t-shirt flat, cut off the bottom hem and the top (armpit to armpit), and then cut horizontal strips about 1-2 inches wide, stopping just before the bottom seam so they’re all connected. Unfold it, and you’ll have one long, loopy strand of fabric! Denim from old jeans can be cut into long strips for a different texture.

Choose Your Flower Design: A simple daisy or sunflower shape with rounded petals is perfect for beginners. Sketch a basic outline on a non-slip rug pad or a sturdy fabric base.

The Coiling Technique: This is the secret! Start coiling your fabric strip tightly in the center to form the flower’s middle. As you coil, hand-sew through the layers with a strong needle and thread to hold the shape. To add petals, create elongated, outward loops with your fabric strip and secure them with stitches at the base.

Build Outwards: Continue coiling and stitching, shaping the petals as you go. Use different colored fabrics to define the center, petals, and background.

The result is a soft, textured, and eco-friendly mat that’s full of personality. It’s a project that’s as rewarding as it is practical.
