How to Make Doormats Using Woolen Yarn
If you have leftover woolen yarn from old sweaters or projects, this is the perfect way to use it! I made a chunky, textured doormat last fall, and it’s held up beautifully. This method doesn’t require a loom, just your hands and some patience.

You’ll need: A plastic or non-slip mat grid (often called “latch hook canvas”), a large-eye needle (latch hook or tapestry needle), and lots of thick woolen yarn.

The Simple Process:

Choose a Simple Pattern: Think geometric shapes, stripes, or even a simple initial. Sketch it out on paper first to plan your colors.

The Latch Hook Technique: Cut your yarn into pieces about 4-5 inches long. Fold one piece in half. Push the looped end through a hole in the canvas from the back to the front. Then, pull the two loose ends through that loop and pull tight. That’s one knot!

Fill It In: Continue tying knots, following your pattern and filling the entire canvas. Use different colors to bring your design to life.

Finish the Back: Once done, you can brush the yarn to fluff it out. For a neat finish, you can glue a piece of felt or non-slip backing to the canvas to cover all the knots.

It’s thick, absorbent, and adds a wonderful handmade welcome to your home.

Today in this video, I would like to show how to make doormats using woolen yarn at home.
