Hand Embroidery & Stone Work on a Kurti
Adding embroidery and stones to a plain kurti is my meditation. You don’t need to cover the entire thing; a little goes a long way.
Start with a Simple Motif: The collar and cuff are perfect places. A basic backstitch outline around the neckline in a contrasting color is elegant and almost impossible to mess up. From there, you can fill the shape with French knots for texture.
For stone work, I highly recommend using fabric glue instead of trying to stitch them on unless you’re very experienced. Create a small cluster of stones at one shoulder or scatter tiny sequins along an embroidered vine. The key is balance. A 2024 trend I’m loving is placing a single, stunning stone or pearl right at the center of the collar—it’s minimalist yet incredibly sophisticated.
Pro Tip: Always use a water-soluble marker to draw your design first. It washes out completely, so you can stitch with confidence.
