How to Make a Pillow Cover Using Shopping Bags
Don’t throw out those plastic shopping bags! You can fuse them together to create a durable, waterproof, and surprisingly chic fabric perfect for outdoor or kid-friendly pillow covers. I made one for my patio, and it’s survived two rainy seasons!

The Magic of Fusing:

Prepare the Bags: Flatten several plastic bags and cut off the handles and bottom seams. You want flat plastic sheets.

Create a “Fabric” Sheet: Layer 2-3 bags between two sheets of parchment paper. Iron them on a medium-low setting (no steam!). The plastic will melt and fuse into a single, stronger sheet. Always work in a well-ventilated area.

Sew the Pillow: Cut two squares from your fused plastic “fabric.” Place them together (fused sides out) and sew around three edges using a strong needle and a longer stitch length. Insert a pillow form and sew the fourth side closed.

It’s waterproof, wipeable, and a fantastic conversation piece!
