How to Make a Bead Embroidery Flower
Beaded flowers add a gorgeous, textured dimension to any project. I find starting with a simple 5-petal flower is best for beginners.
Trace & Plan: Lightly trace a flower shape onto your fabric (stretched in a hoop).
Outline: Using a backstitch, outline the petals with a single strand of thread and smaller seed beads (like size 11/0). This creates a defined edge.
Fill It In: Now for the fun part! Use a technique called couching. String 5-7 larger beads (like 8/0 or 6/0 E-beads) onto a thread. Lay this “string of beads” across the petal and use tiny stitches with a second thread to secure it down at intervals between the beads. Repeat, rows snugly next to each other, until the petal is full.
The Center: Create a stunning center by stacking a larger, beautiful bead or making a small cluster of tiny seed beads.
The key is to keep your tension consistent so the beads lie flat and don’t pull.
