DIY Recycle Newspaper Wall Hanging
Don’t recycle that newspaper—upcycle it into stunning, textural wall art! I made a large, botanical-inspired piece for my living room, and guests are always shocked when I tell them it’s just rolled-up newsprint. It’s a fantastic way to add a rustic, eco-chic touch to any space.
You’ll need: Newspapers, glue (PVA or a glue gun), a skewer or knitting needle, and paint (optional).
Let’s get rolling:
Create Your “Sticks”: Tear newspaper into full-page sheets. Place a skewer at the corner and roll it up tightly, gluing the end to secure. Make dozens of these paper “sticks.”
Design & Shape: This is where the magic happens. You can:
Coil them into spirals to form flowers or sunbursts.
Arrange them in a geometric pattern, like a herringbone or chevron design.
Bend and glue them to form words or simple shapes like hearts.
Assemble & Finish: Glue all your shapes onto a sturdy cardboard backing. You can leave it natural for a neutral, rustic look or paint it. A recent trend is a monochromatic scheme—painting the entire piece a matte black, white, or even a metallic gold for a surprisingly modern and sophisticated finish.
Seal it with a layer of mod podge to protect it from dust. It’s lightweight, personal, and a true conversation starter!
