How to Make a Flower Pot from Popsicle Sticks
Don’t throw away those leftover popsicle sticks! They’re the perfect material for a charming, rustic flower pot that’s way more personal than anything you can buy. I made a whole set of these with my niece last summer, and they’re still holding up her little succulent collection.
What You’ll Need:
Popsicle sticks (About 40-50 for a small pot)
Strong craft glue (Hot glue is fastest)
A small plastic cup or jar (as your form)
Acrylic paint and varnish (optional)
Step-by-Step Guide:
Build the Base: Lay down 8-10 sticks side-by-side. Then, glue another 8-10 sticks across them perpendicularly to create a solid square base. Let it dry completely—this is your foundation!
Create the Walls: Take your plastic cup and place it upside down on your base. Now, simply start gluing popsicle sticks vertically around the cup, side-by-side. The cup acts as your mold, making this step incredibly easy.
Add Stability: Once the vertical layer is dry, carefully remove the cup. For extra strength, wrap and glue a few sticks horizontally around the outside, like a belt.
Finish & Decorate: That’s it! You can leave it natural for a rustic look or paint it any color you like. Pro Tip: Always seal it with a coat of varnish if you’re using real plants, as it protects the wood from moisture.
Honestly, this is one of my favorite upcycling crafts. It’s shockingly simple and the result is so charming. I remember making these with my niece; her pride was worth more than any store-bought decor.
You’ll Need: Popsicle sticks (50-60), strong craft glue, a small rubber band, a plastic cup or jar (for the base), and acrylic paint.
The Process:
Build the Base: First, glue sticks side-by-side onto your plastic cup. This creates the flat bottom. Let it dry completely—patience is key here!
Form the Walls: Now, take your rubber band and snugly fit it around the cup. This acts as a brace. Start sliding popsicle sticks underneath the band, one by one, gluing the ends where they overlap. The rubber band holds everything tight while the glue sets.
Final Touches: Once the glue is rock-solid, carefully remove the cup and band. Now, unleash your creativity! Paint it, add patterns, or even write a little message. A coat of clear varnish will make it weather-resistant for real plants.
It’s a perfect, mindful project for a rainy afternoon.
