New Year’s holidays are always “pushed” to find something new in decorating the house and the Christmas tree. Accidentally stumbled in an old magazine on a ball of colorful paper, made in the technique of Kusudama (this is one of the origami species ). Then we managed to find on the Internet, a master class of making this ball. Alas … When I started to make the ball myself, I realized that much in the description was missed, and the ball, well, did not turn out to be round. After I made 4 balls, I understood all the nuances, so I’ll tell you in great detail.

By the way, if you make these balls large, you can decorate them with a huge hall for the holiday. But I’ll show you how to make a small bowl of Kusudam. For a ball it will take 16 five petal flowers from thick paper. Accordingly, the petals of different colors need 80 pieces. We cut into 16 squares of 7×7 cm of five different colors (I have – it’s white, pink, blue, green and yellow).

We start to make one petal – I describe in detail, since all the other petals we will do likewise.

Bend the box diagonally – we get two triangles. As in origami, we must ensure that the corners and sides are exactly the same, and the places of folds should be ironed more.

Angles of triangles add to the center

  • Procure is obtained, as for the boat.

  •  bend the bottom corners outwards

  • Each of the bent corners unfolds

  • The projecting edge is bent to the square

  • Then fold the part with the folded edge in half

  • Folded edges are brought together – turned petal.
Just need 5 petals for one flower, and the petals can be the same color, or different, like mine.

The edges of the petal are lubricated with PVA glue, compressed until complete gluing

The petal is ready

I glued the petals in the flower with the help of hotmelt glue to make the work move faster.

In each half of the ball there should be 8 flowers. We begin to glue with two flowers. They are glued to each other for one petal

Then we glue between these flowers one more flower, we glue it as well – the petal to the petal

It turns out 8 flowers on one side of the ball

We also do the second half of the ball. But we still need to prepare a rope, on which the ball will hang. I took the usual yarn (the length of the thread is arbitrary). On the one hand, the thread was doubled, and this loop was fixed with glue inside the ball in one half

At the second end, I stringed beads-drops and a bead-ball

After the thread is pasted, the halves of the ball are glued together with petals. In the middle of each flower I pasted a bead

The ball turned out beautiful, so I immediately made the second, that the holiday became closer!
